Mr. Peter started his professional career as a teacher with a B. Paed (Arts), B. Ed (Hons – with First Class Pass) qualification. He gained the experience which saw him promoted to the positions of Subject Advisor and then Head of Curriculum at a District Office in Gauteng. As the first General Manager of the Old Mutual-MTN Sciencentre (now the KZN Science Centre) he transformed the centre into a viable Section 21 Company with vibrant programmes that served the needs of the KZN schools.
Mr. Peter later joined the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Johannesburg as Chief Operating Officer, where he manages and oversees numerous education and public programmes as well as the country’s only fully serviced career centre. Mr. Peter is key to leading the Maths, Science and Technology (MST) Strategy on behalf of the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) and he leads the project team that manages the largest education project in SA, the Secondary School Improvement Programme (SSIP), on behalf of the GDE.
It is this project that is accredited with the steady improvement of Gauteng’s matric results over the last three years and to establishing the province as the top performing province in this country for the first time in its history. Mr. Peter is also the Chairman of the Board of the Southern African Association of Science and Technology Centres (SAASTEC).
