Fun First Fridays with the KZN ScienCentre at the Gateway Theatre of Shopping

The KZN ScienCentre at the Gateway Theatre of Shopping, along with the Mr. Funtubbles Family Funfair, will soon be introducing its exciting new Fun First Fridays programme. Taking place between 09h00 – 21h00 on the first Friday of every month, starting with Friday 6 July, the KZN ScienCentre will be offering a variety of unique and interactive exhibition style workshops. As an added bonus, on Fun First Fridays a R60 combo ticket purchased at either the ScienCentre or Mr. Funtubbles will allow entrance into both venues and will include R60 worth of rides at the funfair.

Fun First Fridays at the KZN ScienCentre will allow visitors the chance to enjoy all the regular interactive exhibits, whilst also being treated to open display workshops by the fully trained facilitators. Science demonstrations, fancy craft stations, DIY science experiments and a whole lot more will be on offer each Fun first Friday, with the lineup of workshops and activities to change each week.

KZN ScienCentre Education Manager Nazley Kast said that “we have started the Fun first Fridays campaign because we want to offer our visitors a little more to do every month as a family, and that is why we have partnered with Mr. Funtubbles Family Funfair to offer an affordable and attractive range of activities that will allow visitors to make the most of their visits to the Gateway Theatre of Shopping”.

Speaking about the facilitated interactive exhibits and workshops that will be on offer at the KZN ScienCentre on the first Friday of every month, Kast said that “these will allow visitors to get a better look at who we are and what we do, as usually our workshops are done exclusively for holiday programmes, but are now being extended for our Fun First Fridays”. The KZN ScienCentre’s famed state of the art planetarium dome will also be available, and it will be featuring a host of new videos.

The KZN ScienCentre, a Non Profit Organization (NPO #064-359-NPO), is situated at the Gateway Theatre of Shopping in Umhlanga and offers a great variety of educational and event facilities following an extensive revamp in October 2009. As a registered non-profit organization, all funds received by the KZN ScienCentre directly support its educational programmes and exhibits.

The facilities at the KZN ScienCentre at the Gateway Theatre of Shopping include: its 40-seater domed planetarium, over 150 interactive science and technology exhibits, a 120-seat audio-visually equipped auditorium, a 60-seat conference room, a 60-seat laboratory, 12 well-trained Education Officers, 24-hour camera surveillance and supervision, to name but a few.
