Awesome ‘Science Makes Sense’ holiday programme at KZN ScienCentre this December

The KZN ScienCentre at the Gateway Theatre of Shopping has lined up an awesome ‘Science Makes Sense’ holiday programme for the upcoming December holidays. The month-long programme (10 December 2011 – 10 January 2012) offers a multitude of fun, interactive and educational activities that will explore our five senses, exhibiting how science is involved in what we experience everyday through sight, touch, taste, hear and smell.

The various sense-related workshops and experiments will investigate what life would be like without the five senses. Those who attend will be able to compete in the Optical Obstacle workshop, and will get to try read by touch in the Brilliant Braille workshop. With Tastes, children will discover the microscopic world on our tongues, and will also learn how our Nifty Neurons help science make sense.

The KZN ScienCentre will also be hosting the South African Guide Dog Association during the entire December holiday period. The guide dogs will be showcasing their abilities by leading people through a darkened room, and children will also be educated about these wonderful animals. The KZN ScienCentre will be donating 10% of their gate entry for the holiday period to the South African Guide Dog Association.

The KZN ScienCentre will also be offering all Little Einstein’s access to the exclusive Scientastic Soft-Play Area, where mums and tots aged 0-4 are invited to experience science through engaging and interactive exhibits in a safe area specially designed for the little ones.

The Science Makes Sense holiday programme will run from 11h00 – 14h00 daily.
As well as the awesome holiday programme, the KZN ScienCentre at the Gateway Theatre of Shopping will also be offering visitors the chance to experience its famous 40-seater domed planetarium, as well as its over 150 interactive science and technology exhibits.

Candice Potgieter, General Manager of the KZN ScienCentre, said that “the activities that we have lined up for our December Science Makes Sense holiday programme up will put a twinkle in your eye and a tingle in your taste buds! Each of the workshops and experiments that we will be offering are designed to show the role of science in how we experience our everyday lives through our five senses. We have highly-trained and experienced facilitators who always ensure that visits to the KZN ScienCentre are both fun and informative!”
